how to plan a posh picnic

Boujee and vibey picnics are always worth the prep work. Here’s how to plan yours:

+ LOCATION: learn from my mistakes and figure this out beforehand. For our anniversary picnic, I just winged it, which was too bad because we laid our picnic out and 15 min later found it to be an endpoint for a lot of kayakers. Everyone walking w/ their kayaks made the whole thing a lot less intimate lol so we ended up walking to a different spot. So, I’ve since learned location is everything and to do it beforehand! Ideally find some water and what direction is sunset, and you’ll be good! If you’re local to Central PA here a few picnic spot ideas: anywhere along the Susquehanna River off Front St or Fort Hunter Park (both Harrisburg), Sam S. Lewis park (York) or Long’s Park (Lancaster) or Pinchot State Park (Lewisberry).

+ GET A BASKET: anything will do but if you’re looking to find a vintage picnic basket, check out Facebook Marketplace or eBay. I scored mine off Marketplace for $40!

+ FOOD: think whatever is packable. If you’re going to make food, make sure it doesn’t need to be served hot or isn’t super smelly (because, bugs). Some suggestions: any kind of skewers, charcuterie boards and literally anything you can put in Mason jars which as perfect because they have lids. Think coconut rice, a salad, strawberry shortcake… you get it. If all else fails, order takeout from your favorite local restaurant or get a pizza!

+ DRANKS: you can never go wrong with champagne or rosé.

+ SOMETHING TO SIT ON: nothing that you care about too much here or you can’t wash afterwards. You’re laying it on the ground after all.

+ ENJOY YOUR COMPANY: make a playlist, put down your phone and have real conversation! Enjoy the company you’ve brought! I also love playing ‘we’re not really strangers.’ You always learn something new about who you’re with!

Who’s planning a picnic in their future? Be sure to let me know how it goes!

xx, Natalie
